TRAP

Acquired at the Colonial Carriage sale in 2007, in original condition, this beautiful Trap has been completely restored and made it’s debut at Villa Louis in 2008 to rave reviews. There are many different types of Traps, but all have a unique rear seat arrangement not found in other vehicles.

BROUGHAM

Mrs. Burke Roche took delivery of this "Medium Barker Brougham" from Brewster Carriage Company on July 9, 1892 in New York City. She had ordered this vehicle in April 1892 and paid $1,450, built to her specifications.

This information was obtained from the original order/build sheet/invoice, which I have a copy of. This is a great example of a servant driven vehicle of the period.
JENNY LIND PHAETON

Jenny Lind, the famous opera star of the mid 1800's, during her tour of the US in 1850 required that in each city she visited, she have a carriage at her disposal. Carriage builders then started dubbing carriages of this type a “Jenny Lind”. This is a ladies type phaeton with relatively easy entry, featuring a fixed roof and roll up curtains. This particular vehicle was manufactured in Massachusetts, exact date unknown. It was purchased at a Martin sale in 1982 and restored over the next year.

This carriage was judged the winner in a large class of antique vehicles at Villa Louis in 2006.
  1. BUGGY

This “Run About”, commonly referred to as a Doctor’s Buggy, was built by J.S. Morris Carriage Company in Waupun, Wisconsin, probably during the period from 1865 to 1880 judging by the construction details and given the fact that Morris was in business from 1861 to the turn of the century.

I purchased this vehicle in original condition in 2008. The restoration was done through a joint effort by Mast Buggy Shop, Dalton, Wisconsin (body) and Woodlyn Coach, Millersburg, Ohio (top & upholstery). Pinstriping done by L Sign Co., Mauston, Wisconsin.
JUMPSEAT

A Canadian built carriage featuring a sliding main rear seat and a reversible front “jump seat”, probably for children. There is a considerable amount of fancy brass rail work on this vehicle for a “country” type carriage. I purchased in original condition and have restored.
GIG

A reproduction of a "Stanhope Gig", a very popular single seat 2 wheel vehicle. Note the trademark turned-down "gig" shafts, correctly requiring a special gig harness saddle/tugs. This has been our most widely used show cart.
ROAD CART

A so-called full body road cart in that it has a full body solid floor from dash to under seat construction as compared to the more common basket type floor and independent seat. This is newer reproduction manufactured by Great Northern Coach of Appleton, Wisconsin.
